Pregnancy Check-up and Delivery
Home » Pregnancy Check-up and Delivery

The pregnancy checks, or prenatal care, are periodic medical reviews during the gestation of pregnancy intended to observe the well-being of the mother and the growing fetus. These tests are critical in early detection and control of possible complications to deliver a safe and healthy pregnancy. The birth at the end of pregnancy is the delivery process during which a baby is born vaginally or through Cesarean section under medical guidance.

Indications for rigorous pregnancy check-ups and planning for delivery:
  • Pregnancy and Dating:Confirmation of pregnancy is performed during the initial check-up, the estimated due date is determined, and ectopic or molar pregnancies are excluded, creating the background for all subsequent treatment.
  • Maternal and Fetal Health:During pregnancy, check-ups are required to monitor the blood pressure, weight, and overall health of the mother, and the growth, heart rate and position of the breech of the fetus, to identify anomalies.
  • Prevention of Possible Complications:Common screenings should include gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, anaemia, infection, among other possibilities, to ensure that necessary adjustments can be made to avoid complications such as health disorders, congenital disabilities, etc.
  • Postpartum Care and Preparation:Around the ninth month, close to delivery, visits involve preparation before the birth of the child, such as the management of pain, the ways delivery can take place, and how the birthing mother would be prepared about birth, child delivery, and the postpartum healing process.
  • Effects of comprehensive pregnancy check-ups and planned delivery:
  • Better Maternal and Neonatal Outcomes:With regular antenatal care, the rates of infant mortality and morbidity and maternal deaths and morbidities are also greatly mitigated due to the ability to identify and intervene on these complications early.
  • Prevention/ Early Detection and Management of Risks:A high-risk pregnancy during early gestations or the development of complex conditions (e.g., preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction) enables the healthcare providers to adopt early intervention/management measures, thus averting serious incidents.
  • Parent Empowerment and Education:During the check-ups, expectant parents can receive education about changes during pregnancy, birth, infant care and breastfeeding and feel empowered with new knowledge and confidence.
  • Safety of delivery experience:The in-depth antenatal assessment is used to ascertain the best form and time of delivery to the mother and child to reduce risk during childbirth, and ensure medical assistance is nearby in case of an emergency.
